About Miss Pugh

Dear first grade families,

Welcome to an exciting new school year! My name is Bailey Pugh and I have the privilege of working with your child as their first grade teacher. I can't wait to begin our journey together and am looking forward to a year of learning, growth, and cooperation.

This is my fourth year teaching first grade, and my third year at Walsh. I moved to Illinois in July 2019 from Cincinnati, OH, where I attended the University of Cincinnati and began my teaching career.  I was born and raised in Columbus, OH and I currently live in Chicago! Beyond my passion for teaching, I enjoy collecting plants (take a look around my classroom!), coffee, cooking, traveling, hiking, and visiting my family and friends. I am also love exploring with my one-year-old Australian Labradoodle, Scout, and hanging out with my cat, Ellie!

Though you can find out more about what first grade will entail in the "First Grade Information" tab, I will leave you with my personal mission statement that guides my everyday practice and decision-making with your children:

"My mission as an educator is to teach children how to recognize and positively utilize their capabilities and confident attitudes. With the support of students' families and the community, I will empower children to develop both critical thinking skills and compassion using best practices in the early childhood education field."

My guiding principles:

+ Is learning inquiry-based?

+ Am I promoting collaboration in the classroom?

+ Are there real-life implications tied to learning?

+ Am I adapting my methods to honor current research and best practices in the ECE field?

+ Am I promoting self-reflection in the classroom?

+ Do I respect a diverse community of learners, offering supports necessary to each child?

+ Are children safe, loved, and heard?

It is my honor to serve you and your family this year. As we work to help your child make their next academic, social, and emotional gains in first grade, never hesitate to reach out with questions. Through any challenges this year may throw at us, I am here for you and your family every step of the way. Ensuring your child reaches their full potential is a team effort, and I look forward to working with you all!

Sincerely,

Miss Pugh
